  1. Define “universal intervention,” and explain how universal intervention includes biological, psychosocial, and sociocultural efforts.

  2. Define “selective intervention,” and describe and illustrate selective intervention programs, using the example of teen alcohol and drug abuse prevention.

  3. Define “indicated intervention,” describe two types of crisis intervention, and describe and illustrate three types of indicated intervention, using the example of an airplane crash or other major disaster.

  4. Describe efforts to resocialize patients, both in mental hospitals and aftercare programs, including methods for making a mental hospital a therapeutic community. Compare the effectiveness of these approaches.

  5. Outline the procedures involved in civil commitment and the safeguards for patients’ rights and due process in involuntary commitment.
