Methods of Delivery

There are four methods of delivering a speech and each has its own advantages and disadvantages. Review the notes below and pages 277-281 and then complete the activity.

• Manuscript speaking follows a carefully planned script.
  
  
• Memorized speaking requires that the speaker memorize the manuscript and present the speech without the aid of notes.
  
  
• Impromptu speaking is described as "thinking on your feet" or "speaking off the cuff" (279). The speaker has little or no preparation time.
  
  
• Extemporaneous speaking uses a brief outline of main points as the source of information. The speaker fills in the words as he or she talks.
