The advantages of the within-participants design are the insurance of equivalence of the participants in the various treatment groups, the fact that fewer participants are needed, and the increased sensitivity of the experiment. The primary disadvantage of this design is a sequencing effect. The advantage of the mixed models factorial design are basically the same as the factorial design.
