The pretest-posttest research design is a design that randomly assigns participants to the various comparison groups and measures each comparison group on the dependent variable prior to and after the treatment condition is administered. Extraneous variables are controlled because there are comparison groups, one of which is the control group, and the participants are randomly assigned to the comparison groups.
