Dyadic Conditions

From page 5 of your textbook.

A dyadic coalition is a two-person relationship formed by members of a larger group in order to achieve a mutually desired benefit or goal. Dyadic coalitions may be productive or unproductive.

[Situation] The store where Jill works recently hired a new supervisor for her department. Debbie, one of Jill’s coworkers, didn’t like the new supervisor from the moment she started. Debbie complained constantly to Jill about the supervisor and tried to make Jill challenge the supervisor’s decisions. Jill feels as though she’s stuck in the middle; she likes Debbie and wants to agree with her, but she doesn’t really see the problem with the new supervisor. What should Jill do?

  1. Go along with Debbie in order to provide moral support and team spirit. (response)

  2. Talk to the supervisor about the problem. (response)

  3. Tell Debbie that she doesn’t agree with her and that Debbie might reconsider her hostile attitude. (response)
