Unlike television depictions where workers are always best friends who would do anything for each other and where the characters move in and out of interoffice romances with few difficulties—at least with no difficulties that can’t be resolved in 24 minutes—real life is quite different.

[Situation] Pat and Chris work together at a publishing company. When they first meet each other, each is an editorial assistant working for a different editor. After six months of employment, they begin to date. At the end of the first year of employment, Pat is promoted to associate editor and becomes Chris’s supervisor. What should Pat and Chris do?
