Objectives

By the end of this chapter, students will be able to:

1. Identify the impact of population factors, diversity, sociological and economic forces, and technology on occupational projections.

2. Explain how to integrate industry and occupational projections into career interventions.

3. Differentiate between the terms career, job, and occupation.

4. Summarize the advantages and disadvantages of using assessment instruments to assist clients with career-related concerns.

5. Describe the contributions of George Merrill, Frank Parsons, and Willhiem Wundt, to career guidance.

6. Distinguish between directive and nondirective counseling.

7. Describe ways in which human service professionals can ethically incorporate technology into the development and implementation of career services and interventions.

8. Critique an online career counseling and/or career planning website using the National Career Development Association's guidelines for the use of the Internet for the provision of career planning and information services.
