Objectives

By the end of this chapter, students will be able to:

1. Discuss the implications of human service providers self-disclosing to their clients.

2. Differentiate between the terms ethical standards, ethics, and values.

3. Distinguish the differences and similarities between acting in an ethical manner, a legal manner, and a moral manner.

4. Understand the interplay of one's religious beliefs with the profession's code of ethics.

5. Discuss the ethical conflicts that often occur in a human service setting.

6. Apply the NOHS and NCDA ethical standards to their decision-making.

7. Demonstrate their own model of ethical decision-making.
