This activity contains 3 questions.
You are about to introduce a new skill that requires new basic knowledge of your content. Your class has students with special needs, including three students who are at-risk for a variety of reasons: Benito for whom English is a second language, and Joey who has a mild cognitive disability. You must plan activities to ensure that all students are able to learn the new skill. Using "Constructing a Peanut Butter Jelly Sandwich" as the new skill, provide an example for each of the following: 1. Determining preskills needed for the new skill 2. Selecting and sequencing examples 3. Rate of introduction of new skills 4. Providing direct instruction 5. Providing opportunities for practice and review

Explain the steps you would take to construct a graphic organizer to teach a new skill in your content area. Then construct a graphic organizer to teach a skill/concept. Select a concept/skill you would like to teach or you might use the PBJ sandwich example from the previous question.

Your principal wishes to increase the homework return rate of students in your school. She believes that more parental involvement in the homework process is just the thing to increase the return rate. You have been asked to chair a committee of teachers and parents to determine why parents are not more involved and what can be done about the situation. List the reasons for low rates of parent involvement. Explain the options to increase parents' involvement.
