Dr. Virginia Gonzalez

Dr. Gonzalez is an Associate Professor at the Division of Teacher Education, Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL)/Literacy Programs, College of Education, University of Cincinnati. Her major area of expertise is the development of innovative models and educational applications for the assessment and instruction of ESL children and adults.

Dr. Thomas D. Yawkey

Dr. Yawkey is Professor of Education at The Pennsylvania State University, Director of Title III Project ADELANTE PSU ESL Graduate Courses for In-service Graduate Level ESL Training and Staff Development and former Director, Title VII Project P.I.A.G.E.T. Academic Excellence. Receiving his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois,Champaign-Urbana, Dr. Yawkey has taught in public and private schools and at the University of Maryland, College Park and the University of Wisconsin, Madison in-service ESL, bilingual and migrant teachers and for ESL culturally and linguistically diverse students in school districts and social service agencies in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Maryland, Alabama and other states. He is the author and co-author of many books and articles on parenting, ESL, bilingual and young children. Dr. Yawkey is currently involved with Distance Education course development for Penn State's World Campus based Family Literacy Certificate Program.

Dr. Liliana Minaya-Rowe

Dr. Minaya-Rowe is currently an Independent Consultant focusing on the education of English language learners: professional development plans and practices for two-way, bilingual and ESL programs; literacy; effective first and second language instruction; teachers learning communities; program design and implementation; and, parent/family involvement practices. Her 80+ publications include journal articles, books, chapters, teacher manuals, and guidebooks. Dr. Minaya-Rowe is also Professor Emerita of the Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut. She is also co-principal investigators with Margarita Calderón and Diane August on the Carnegie Corporation study on preparing content teachers in secondary schools to teach literacy skills and enhance the subject matter comprehension of English Language Learners. A native of Perú, she holds a Ph.D. in education from the University of Texas Austin with emphasis in bilingual bicultural education, linguistics and anthropology.
