Discovering other educators’ online efforts
Can anyone create a classroom web site? Visit EduHound Class Spotlight (http://www.eduhoundclassroomsontheweb.com/ ) and you will be convinced the answer is yes! Teachers all over the world are extending their classroom beyond their physical walls by creating class websites that their students, parents, and other educators can access. At the EduHound site and at many other sites like it, you’ll find websites for every grade level from kindergarten through high school. These teacher and student-made sites include student activities, teacher resources, fun stuff, projects, community connections, links to educational website, and web quests, fully articulated discovery and problem solving experiences that require exploration of the Web to find the solution. In short, these varied and robust website are powerful and diverse virtual extensions of the teacher’s classroom. How far might it extend? That is limited only by the teacher’s own creativity and interest.
Are these sites difficult to create? With so many free and commercial web authoring tools, not at all. In fact, many sites that offer free web hosting for classroom websites also provide the tools you need and detailed instructions on how to use them.
Imagine that you have decided to create a website for your classroom. Explore the sites listed below or search for your own to find 1) a teacher made website you might want to use as a model; 2) an on-line resource that helps you plan and design a classroom website; and 3) a web hosting and/or web authoring tool you might want to use. Be prepared to describe your finds to your peers.
