The Internet contains a vast storehouse of information, sometimes making it daunting to find what you want. Search engines make the job of finding specific topical information possible but different search engines may produce different outcomes. Try the activity below to decide which search engines seem to target the results you are looking for.
Use FIVE of the search engines listed below and ask for EXACTLY the same 2-to-3 word search phrase on both. You may want to try “learning styles” or “math lesson plans” or a similar education search topic. Compare the hits you get using each engine. How are they the same? How do they differ? Which engine provided you with links that seemed more like what you were looking for? List, annotate, and describe the usefulness of the engines you used to share with your class.
