Chapter Objectives

After completing the study of Chapter 11, students should be able to:

  1. List the main characteristics of survey research;
  2. Summarize the steps in conducting survey research;
  3. List and describe the various approaches to collection data in survey research;
  4. List and describe the different types of surveys;
  5. Describe the basic difference between closed-ended and open-ended questions;
  6. Describe the characteristics of demographic, knowledge, attitudinal, and behavioral survey questions;
  7. Describe the differences between checklists, Likert, and Likert-type questions; and
  8. List several important guidelines for conducting survey research.
