This activity contains 3 questions.
What were three observable results of the 'Day without an Immigrant' protest?
Produce went unpicked in the fields of California and Arizona and truckers did not transport produce.

Meatpacking plants in the Midwest who employ large numbers of immigrants had to close for the day.
Stores and restaurants in areas heavily populated with immigrants, such as Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York.
What were some of the unintended positive consequences of the 'day without immigrants' protest?
"A department chain store offered space for lawyers to give legal advice to immigrants."
Brought together other groups who fell oppressed in some way such as other ethnicities beside Latino, gay rights advocates, and those opposed to the war in Iraq.
40 Casino owners in Las Vegas supported protesting workers by "setting up tables in employee lunchrooms for workers to sign pro-immigration petitions."

The idea grew out of a small grass roots group in Los Angeles.
They also networked with existing groups who supported the cause, such as union organizers, and immigrant rights groups.
