By adulthood individuals are versatile speakers who can tailor any message to the context and the participants. Their conversational and literacy abilities continue to diversify and become more elaborate with age. It is also during this time that gender specific styles of communication are apparent. Except for a small percentage of adults who have some type of brain injury or disease, most individuals continue to be effective communicators throughout their lives.
