Evaluating student learning is done on individual, statewide, and even national levels. Traditional report cards and newer approaches, such as student resumes and authentic assessments, provide feedback, information, and incentive to help individual learners. Proficiency exams are often used to evaluate how well groups of students are doing. And standardized tests, including the controversial proposed national testing, not only help place, diagnose, and evaluate individual learners, but can also be used to evaluate the effectiveness of schools and teachers.
