The author addresses the circumstances which facilitate a woman’s decision to seek out family violence services. She discusses the specific types of program features which will respond to women’s needs and promote their willingness to come in for help.

2. Treas, Judith and Widmer, Eric D. 2000. “Married Women’s Employment Over the Life course: Attitudes in Cross-National Perspective.” Social Forces, June 2000, Vol. 78 Issue 4, p1409, 28p. Content Select: Sociology, AN_3421630.

These researchers report their findings from a larger, 23 nation study of attitudes about women’s employment in four stages of the family life course. Numerous findings are reported, including a general agreement between men and women and the evidence to support a normative hypothesis.

This cross-cultural study deals with the role of Sweden, Germany, and the United States in the development of the dual breadwinner role. It includes a discussion of social structural factors relating to: gender relations, immigration policies on the behavior of men and women, and the patterns and forms of gender relations.

These authors examine the impact of marriage and divorce on the economic well-being of married and divorced women. They report an economic advantage of marriage to women and an economic disadvantage of divorce to women.

This article addresses the pedophilic nature of sexual abuse of children both within and beyond family bounds. It includes a discussion of measures of sexual interest in children and how they vary both within and beyond the family.

These authors studied morbidity data for US women. Differing marital status roles, transitions in and out of these roles, and the impact of health before and after those transitions are discussed in the findings.
