- The student should be able to describe the variety that is found in expressions of human sexuality, both cross-culturally and in the United States.
- The student should be able to describe the extent of prostitution in the United States, discuss how people become prostitutes, and make arguments both for and against considering prostitution to be a problem about which laws should deal.
- The student should be able to define pornography, discuss the constitutional status of pornography, make arguments both for and against the censorship of pornography, and assess the data on whether pornography is associated with violence against women.
- The student should be able to describe the stance of the three sociological perspectives on the role of sexual deviance in society.
- The student should be able to describe the various policies and laws that have been implemented to control prostitution and pornography and assess their effectiveness.
