This article discusses the difficulties in getting prompt aid to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. With a focus on the President’s performance in mobilizing aid, giving power to inexperienced people (FEMA Director Brown), and developing recovery strategies in the storm’s aftermath. Polling shows the belief that race and poverty were factors involved in the delay. Sociological concepts addressed are power, politics, bureaucracy, race/ethnicity, and social class.
