McQuail and Windahl show dozens of models from the first 30 years of mass communication research with explanatory comments. Included is discussion on the narrative, Shannon-Weaver and helix models.
Alexis S. Tan. Mass Communication Theories and Research (Macmillan, 1986). Drawing on the growing body of behavioral communication research, Professor Tan explains mass communication functions, processes and effects. Although written for serious students, the book requires no background in communication theory, methodology or statistics.
