A review of a random sample of 200 qualitative research studies found that the mean length was 122.75 pages with a standard deviation of 12.83. Qualitative case studies constituted 55% of the studies while 16% were ethnographies. The mean difference in the lengths of the case studies and ethnographies was statistically significant at the .001 level.
