Ethnographic researchers are themselves the measuring instruments. This requires a great deal of self-knowledge so that one’s own beliefs and biases don’t shape the data. Keeping a record of your personal responses to your observations can be helpful as can periodically reviewing your observations and insights with other researchers who know you well.
