A Note from the Authors

This book had its genesis many years ago in a question that came to us as we thought about the struggle of so many students to write strong college-level papers: why are writing handbooks so difficult to use? That question led us to begin exploring new ways that writing could be taught in the classroom and presented in a textbook. The result, The Longman Handbook for Writers and Readers, represents years of reflection on the processes of writing and learning. We hope that you'll find the book not only full of helpful information and advice, but also easy to use. In The Longman Handbook for Writers and Readers, we're proud to offer a text that will help you enjoy the process of becoming a better writer.
