Chapter Objectives

This chapter concentrates on the basic principles for documenting sources properly, in order to avoid plagiarism and demonstrate the research conventions necessary within academic communities.

The chapter objectives that follow will help you figure out whether you have really mastered the material presented in this chapter.

After reading this chapter and completing its exercises, you should be able to:

  1. explain to another student how you know what to document in a reseach paper
  2. define the three different types of plagiarism
  3. understand strategies for incorporating and documenting quotes, paraphrases, facts, details, statistics, and visuals into the text of your written work
