After reading this chapter and completing its exercises, you should be able to:

  1. Explain to another student the concept of "number" and how some verbs and pronouns are singular and others are plural

  2. Explain to another student terms and concepts like "pronoun" and "antecedent" and "agreement of subject and verb"

  3. Recognize specific constructions that cause problems with agreement, such as indefinite pronouns, relative pronouns, compounds, and constructions and resolve problems as you encounter them
