35.2 Semicolons and Colons

Notice how you can set up and deliver a complex list by using a colon and a series of semicolons. Here are some examples:

Gabe was a difficult customer: he complained about our products; he scrutinized every clause of the contract, no matter how small; and he yelled at the waiter, who was only doing his job.

I went skydiving for three reasons: I was curious; I wasn't getting any younger; and my students were doing it for a project, and I felt responsible for them.

The 15 mg/kg/day group developed the following conditions: dehydration; loss of appetite; and vertigo, which was not expected.
