1 .		Political writers and commentators will often attempt to shift, or expose, the connotations of a term to suit their own agendas. For instance, in the following paragraph, see the author's attention to the term "global economy": The "global economy" is another name for imperialism, and imperialism is a transnational form of capitalism. The live green earth is transformed into dead, gold bricks, with luxury items for the few and toxic slag heaps for the many. The glittering mansion overlooks a vast sprawl of shanty towns, wherein a desperate, demoralized humanity is kept in line with drugs, television, and the armed forces. —Michael Parenti, Against Empire Write a summary of Parenti's position for an audience of your fellow students.
