This chapter reviews the importance of argumentation skills in effective writing and reviews strategies for logical written argumentation that will appeal to readers.
The chapter objectives that follow will help you figure out whether you have really mastered the material presented in this chapter.

After reading this chapter and completing its exercises, you should be able to:

  1. explain to another student what is and what is not meant by argumentative writing;
  2. employ logical strategies that are proven to be most successful for point-driven writers;
  3. recognize and revise problems with illogical thinking in your own planning and writing, as well as the writing of others.
