In this chapter, we address the big question, “What is Literature?” and find that the answers to this question are fairly easy to intuit. Chapter 5 considers the form and content of literature, the notion of a canon, and it introduces current discussions regarding the study of literature and culture. The chapter concludes with advice on further reading as we prepare for chapters ahead.
