Writing about Poetry
Overview

In reading a poem, the first and most important question to ask your self is this: Who is speaking? Chapter 11 begins by examining the poem and the speaker, and then proceeds to discussions on figurative language, structure, explication, rhythm and versification. The chapter features a student’s essay on metrics, and ends with suggestions for further reading, plus a checklist for getting ideas for writing about poetry.
