Paraphrase

A paraphrase restates the entire sentence, paragraph, etc. in a writer's own words. It is approximately the same length or even longer than the original. Paraphrasing is used to make material written in dense, abstract, archaic, or confusing language more comprehensible.

How to Write Paraphrases

  • Make sure that you understand the passage.
  • Substitute your own words for those of the passage. Use synonyms where necessary.
  • Rearrange your own sentences so that they read smoothly.
  • Reorder and restructure your sentences to improve coherence and style.
