Chapter Summary

Chapter 4 introduces you to the basic principles of evaluating the potential sources you have found while carrying out the kinds of searches described in the two previous chapters. When you complete this chapter, you should be able to do the following things:

  1. Distinguish between primary and secondary materials
  2. Evaluate print and nonprint materials, including Internet sources
  3. Recognize fact and opinion in the sources you read
  4. Read more purposefully and take notes effectively
  5. Understand—and avoid—plagiarism
