Chapter Summary

Chapter 8 illustrates the basic forms used in documenting sources in a research paper in MLA style. When you complete this chapter you should be able to do the following things:

  1. Write the basic MLA forms for books and periodicals
  2. Locate information and examples for citing sources that call for more complicated citations than the basic forms
  3. Know how to cite a source parenthetically in your paper
  4. Understand the differences between explanation and reference notes and know how to use both kinds
