Introduction

Welcome to the Student Resources section for The Longman Anthology of British Literature! Please read all of the information on this page before moving through this section.

The Student Resources section is organized by the six major periods in British literature—all of which can be accessed, from any page in the site, through the drop-down list in the navigational bar above.

Once you have left this page, use the drop-down list above to choose a period, and use the left-hand navigation bar to access the features within each period. Each of the six literary period modules contains the following items:

  • Overview — an introduction to the literary period
  • Perspectives — information about significant literary or social issues during this period
  • Authors — a list of authors, which provides links to author modules presented on this site
  • Web Resources — a selection of links to external sites relevant to this period
  • Timeline — interactive timelines featuring original content, closely integrated with the print Anthology, and specially selected images and links to additional Web sites.
  • Researching Online — information about how to conduct research online

Each Author module contains a brief biography, a list of author-related Web resources, and new bibliography particular to the author. To move between the Author modules within a literary period, simply choose the period Authors link in the left-hand navigational bar and click on the name of the author (or anonymous work) you would like to review.
