A timeline helps students easily and quickly visualize the important events of an era. We have developed six timelines for each of the Anthology's major periods; within each timeline key literary, political, and cultural events have been identified. Each event is accompanied by a detailed explanation. Most have additional pointers to:

• relevant texts that can be found in the print Anthology
• helpful sites that can be found elsewhere on the Web
• colorful pictures and illustrations

Once the Timeline appears you can switch between different periods by clicking on the names in the upper-right hand corner of the timeline. Explore the timeline!
