Recall a time when, like Hughes, you did something you didnt really believe in because you found it easier to go along with the crowd. In an essay, narrate the experience, focusing on the situation, the other people involved, your feelings at the time, and the aftermath of the incident.

In this brief narration, Hughes does a great deal to recreate his experience vividly and concretely. Analyze Hughes use of languagespecific nouns, verbs, and adjectivesas well as his use of dialogue and repetition to add punch to his story.
