United States foreign policy is the responsibility of the State Department. The Secretary of State is the point person for the United States when it comes to interacting with the rest of the world. That is a big job, and the State Department employs thousands of people and has offices in almost every country of the world. Review the State Department's web site to learn more about it.

The State Department is the United State's official outreach to the rest of the world. It is through the State Department that our government officially interacts with all other governments of the world.

The New Global Agenda
Since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, many people have suggested that one way to prevent terrorism is to ensure that the conditions for terrorism are kept at bay. One condition for terrorism is poverty. When people are suffering great poverty they are more likely to listen to radicals that tell them their poverty is caused by the unfair policies of the United States or its allies. The United States tries to help countries that have large amounts of poverty by giving them aid. This aid is coordinated through the United States Agency for International Development. Let's see what that agency does.
