Welcome to the Companion Website for Good Reasons (3rd edition) by Lester Faigley and Jack Selzer. Good Reasons introduces student writers to the writing process and the steps involved in the construction of a persuasive argument. The chapters in this textbook invite you to discuss specific writing strategies; explore the more effective modes of argument; examine the links between visual, online, and written arguments; research a topic using a variety of strategies; and learn about all of the steps necessary to write successfully in the academic setting. This Web site is meant to complement the textbook and help each student develop into a competent and confident writer.
The Student Resources section of the site has been designed to give you the opportunity to apply the knowledge that you will gain by studying the textbook and to provide you with resources that will help you learn more about writing successful arguments. Within Student Resources, you will find a wide variety of materials to assist you with your course work and academic writing. Chapter links will take you to a brief chapter summary with specific content objectives, accompanied by annotated Web links for that chapter's material. Extra activities for each chapter are also included; these range from Internet search projects related to the chapter focus to more general writing exercises that will allow you to expand your abilities even further. Each chapter section includes a quiz and an exercise set that underscore the information and persuasive writing techniques that you should have mastered by the end of the chapter.
