Visit Big Bend! A Persuasive Brochure

You are an advertiser writing and designing a persuasive brochure detailing the attractions of the Big Bend region in southwest Texas.

Get Your Assignment

You work for an advertising firm in Alpine, Texas. Your firm has been hired by the Big Bend Area Tourism Council (BBATC) for its most ambitious promotional project to date: to produce a persuasive brochure on the region’s attractions for vacationing retirees. The BBATC plans to make the brochure available through travel agencies that do business with members of the United States Association of Retirees (USAR).

The files below contain information and visuals that you may use in your brochure.

Create Your Brochure

After reading your files, you’ll be ready to begin the preparatory work necessary to produce an effective brochure. This work will include:

  • Thinking about your rhetorical situation
  • Looking carefully at your assignment
  • Asking questions
  • Using an effective means of generating ideas
  • Thinking about your use of words and images
  • Developing a working thesis (or a focus) for your brochure. After all, you won’t be able to include all of the information contained in your files!
  • Deciding on graphs, tables, and charts

Make sure to consult the section on creating brochures in the handbook. You might also look for some brochures in your community, just to see how professionals approach tasks similar to this one.

We recommend that you consult The Penguin Handbook as you work on this assignment. We also suggest that you use some of the Writing in the World Worksheets, which are designed to offer you specific guidance at all stages of the writing process.

About These Files

The towns and attractions described in this file do exist. However, the businesses and organizations (as well as their contact information) are entirely fictional. We have created these documents so that you may learn how to use sources effectively and appropriately before conducting original research of your own.
