To the Editor:

I have just one response to Councilwoman Griffith: “You go, girl!"

Before I came to the University of Portland, I would hand out as much as I could to the homeless in my hometown. But after moving to Portland, my opinions have changed. I’ve never seen so many lazy bums!

From volunteering at shelters back home, I know that many organizations will help the homeless find jobs, get help, and look for places to live. I myself used to work at my church’s soup kitchen and met many homeless men who were trying their best to turn their lives around. So I’m tired of dealing with the bums here in Portland, who aren’t trying to improve their lives at all. They ask for change, and then get drunk when they can afford to buy booze.

I’ve got no sympathy for these guys, and I don’t give them any money. I say, bring on the ordinance!

Sincerely,

Ross Highstreet

Chemistry major
