Fund Application Guidelines

The Larchmont University Professional Speakers Fund was established by the Office of Student Affairs in 1990 to foster the professional development of students and faculty. Speakers supported by the fund should increase their audience's awareness of ethical issues in their field, and help prepare students to address professional issues such as law, public policy, and personal responsibility when they graduate. All official student groups are eligible to apply for one grant (up to $5000) per year. Address application letters to

Your application letter should do the following:

1) Describe the professional qualifications of the speaker and what makes him or her a good choice for the Professional Speakers Fund.

2) Explain how the speaker's topic or area of expertise is relevant to the professional development of students. Is the topic one of interest to professionals in the field? Are new developments taking place regarding this topic? Will the speaker bring his or her audience up-to-date on an important area of the field?

3) Describe the nature and size of the expected audience for the talk. How many students, from what backgrounds and majors, and with what career goals, may be expected to attend?

4) Include a budget for your event. If any Speakers Fund money will be used for publicity, describe how you will publicize the event.
