Air: The major airports nearest the Big Bend region are in El Paso and Midland.

Rail: Alpine is the only town in the region served by Amtrak. Trains arrive from both San Antonio and El Paso three to four times a week.

Bus: Alpine is also the only town in the region served by Greyhound. Buses leave for both San Antonio and El Paso at least once every two days.

Road: The Big Bend region lies within a day’s drive of El Paso, Austin, and San Antonio. The roads in the area are excellent and are generally clear year-round. The region has a number of car rental agencies:

Medical Facilities

The Santa Elena Medical Center, located in Alpine, is the only major hospital in the region. The SEMC offers a range of services, from surgeries to physical therapy, radiological procedures, laboratory testing, and more. It has an excellent maternity ward, and provides free services to migrant workers. The SEMC also has a well-established Senior Wellness Program, which caters to the many retirees in the area.

The Study Butte Rescue Medics provide first aid, emergency, and trauma services to the entire Big Bend Region.
