Who is responsible for the obesity of individuals who order either themselves or their children large-sized portions of fast food—the consumers or the fast food industry? ___1___ According to individuals who have filed lawsuits against companies such as McDonald’s, the fast food industry has misled consumers into believing that their food is healthful—in fact, they argue that fast food restaurants companies make it very difficult for consumers to find out any facts about the nutrition of their food items. ___2___ On the other hand, lawmakers and restaurant owners—including many owners of mom & pop establishments that can’t afford hefty lawsuits—argue that the individual is ultimately the responsible party. ___3___ After all, individuals put the food in their mouths.
