policy decisions.
- Delineate the respective constitutional powers accorded
to both the president and Congress vis-a-vis the broad
issue of war powers.
- Describe the respective roles and duties of key foreign
policy institutions, including the Department of Defense
and State, the CIA, and the National Security Council.
- Explain the key components of the American foreign policy
tradition, including the impact of democratization and
isolationism.
- Define and explain the implications of idealism and
realism in contemporary American Foreign Policy.
- Distinguish between unilateralism and multilateralism.
- Review both the content and impact of current American
defense and foreign policies toward the regions of
Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union.
- Explain how and why foreign-policy issues can sometimes
affect election results in the United States.
