Chapter 6: Public Space |
|
Chapter 6 focuses on public space as yet another medium in which to read cultural life and values. Examples include streets, parks, sports arenas, shopping malls, memorials, and museums. It explores the notion of private verses public space, and the way that these spaces code ideology as well as preserve beliefs and traditions.
The Companion Website continues to explore the theme of public space. The Web Exercises investigate the different uses of public space, as well as issues with online public space. Wired Culture looks at technology and public space. The Film Clip exercise explores online dystopias, and Visual Culture Online examines landscapes and the environment. Mining the Web offers links for you to investigate public space organizations.
