Welcome

Welcome to the Student Resources section of the Companion Website for Perspectives: Case Studies for Readers and Writers, written by Joanna Gibson.

The purpose of this Web site is to enhance your learning by extending the information found in the textbook into the Web environment and by providing you with different opportunities to develop your abilities as an effective writer.

The Web site approximates layout of your book: thirteen chapters divided into two parts. Part I, consisting of Chapters 1-7, covers strategies for developing critical reading, writing, and research skills. Part II, Chapters 8-13, asks you to apply the skills covered in Part I to six case studies.

Each "chapter" in the Companion Website offers you an Overview and Objectives; Digital Readings that follow the themes of the text with Focus and Connection Questions to help you assess your understanding of the material; special Online Activities to provide you with further experience with the Internet; Writing Practice, where you can hone your skills as a writer; and Additional Media that may assist you in your research and writing on a particular subject. For Chapters 8-13, samples of student writing in response to some of the exercises and assignments in the text are also provided.

You will also find a General Resources section with links to online writing tools such as a dictionary, thesaurus, citation guide, grammar and usage guide, and a glossary of rhetorical terms. In addition, you will find communication resources that will assist you with collaborating with your peers, such as a Chat Space and Discussion Board.

We hope you enjoy the Web site and all of the special links and activities we have included for you. To get started, click on a chapter title in the navigation bar on the left, or select from the pull-down menu in the upper left (below the Longman ship).
