This chapter explains rules for using the most common marks of punctuation and rules for capitalization. You will learn the following about punctuation and capitalization:
- Effective writers know and use the basic conventions of punctuation and capitalization.
- The common marks of punctuation are the apostrophe, the comma, the colon, the dash, the period, the question mark, quotation marks, and the semicolon.
- Basic rules of capitalization apply to the following:
- Sentences and direct quotations
- Names of specific people, places, organizations, things, and times
- Titles and specific elements of letters
