<p>During reading, you should <em>annotate</em> or mark your text to help you
concentrate<br>
and to make it easier to review the material later.</p>
<ul>
<li>Circle important terms.</li>
<li>Underline definitions and meanings.</li>
<li>Place small question marks above unknown words.</li>
<li>Point out important concepts with symbols such as stars or checks.</li>
<li>Signal steps in a process or lists by using numbers.</li>
<li>Write recall questions in the margin where the answer is found. You can<br>
use these questions to test your comprehension and review the material.</li>
</ul>
<p>Cover up the text so that you see only the questions; then try to recall the<br>
answers.</p>
<p>Write summaries at the end of long sections.</p>
<p>After reading, reduce the material into a summary of what you have read to check your comprehension. If you can summarize the author’s point and major supporting details, you have understood the material. Annotations and summary notes are excellent tools to use when studying for tests.</p><br>
