Objective
To recognize propaganda techniques that use irrelevant details.

      6. A politician has consistently voted against raising taxes votes with the majority in his party to institute a federal sales tax on goods and services. When questioned by the media, she states, "The polls clearly indicate that people don't want any cuts in government services, and my party is convinced that the Federal Sales Tax is the correct solution, so I vote with the people and with my party."  

 
 
 
 


      7. A famous actor appears as himself in a commercial for Eight O'clock coffee stating, "I love the rich aroma, the warm and satisfying taste of Eight O'clock any time of the day!"  

 
 
 
 


      8. All politicians are crooks. They have to be corrupt to survive as a politician. 

 
 
 
 


      9. A candidate for the senate appears at a local rally wearing the cap of the area's professional baseball team, a plaid long–sleeved shirt with the sleeves rolled up, and jeans. His wife and teenage son and daughter appear with him. In his speech, he says, "Susan and I are honored to have your support. Like you, we want to take our country away from the professional politician and place the power back in the hands of the people who make this country great."  

 
 
 
 


      10. A national restaurant chain runs the following advertising campaign: "Are you hungry for a home cooked, nutritious meal? Are you searching for a relaxing and pleasant place to gather with friends and family? Come to our house, and let our family serve your family."
