Transition Words and Thought Patterns
Read the paragraph. Some of the transition words are in bold print. Identify each bold transition by type in the questions that follow the paragraph. 1Colleen Mason had a three-step shopping routine: Make a list, stick to the list, and get out quick; she hated the chore. 2"It is another boring shopping day," Colleen said to herself when she drove into the store parking lot. 3"My favorite chore of the week," she thought wryly to herself while she selected a cart. 4Colleen steered her cart down the aisles. 5The crowd of customers slowly crawled around the aisles like snails on a sidewalk, and a group of older women were in the produce department slowly pecking around for vegetables. 6Colleen felt that it would take a year to get her shopping finished. 7Then, suddenly, the portly, middle-aged produce manager burst through the back room doors and started singing. 8A dozen employees also joined in the chorus. 9As Colleen turned to push her cart to the cash register, she noticed a bag boy who stood frozen with red-faced shock. 10The choir belted out "Happy birthday, dear Jason." 11Finally, Colleen noticed his name tag. 12It read, "Jason."
